Course Objectives

CM221 - Florida Admissions: Complying with the Rules and Regulations

This course is designed for Florida Admissions Directors, Representatives, and Agents who interact with prospective students at both Title IV and Non-Title IV institutions. The course includes Florida's specific regulatory requirements that admissions, staff and faculty must understand including what can and cannot be said to applicants and students. Additionally, the course covers the consequences, disciplinary actions, and penalties when rules and regulations are not followed.

This is the 2nd level compliance training course approved by CIE for admissions personnel who have completed CM201 but still need to meet their annual training requirement set forth by CIE. By using this course, institutions do not have to create their own training program for approval. In addition, this course provides 4 hours of continuing education approved by the Commission.


Module 1: Benefits of Ongoing Admissions Training

  • Discuss the implications of doing the right thing, the concept of a compliant culture, and transparency as it relates to conducting oneself in the career school sector.
  • Cite reasons why admissions training is essential for admissions staff as well as employees who have direct and indirect involvement in the admissions process.
  • Outline the needs of student applicants and how to meet them.
  • Describe why knowing definitions of words and terms is essential to doing the right thing, and where to find these definitions.

Module 2: Florida-Specific Regulatory Requirements

  • Identify the rules and law referring to advertising and marketing.
  • Provide examples of the advertising and marketing strategies used at your institution and discuss how they are in compliance with state Fair Consumer Practices.
  • Specify catalog and enrollment agreement requirements and assess your institution's documents.
  • Accurately complete an enrollment agreement.
  • Explain tuition fees, tuition assistance, and cancellation and refund policies.
  • Explain transfer of credit policies.
  • Identify other disclosures that impact the admissions process.

Module 3: Your Institution and Regulations

  • Complete institution organization chart.
  • Summarize training programs and courses offered at your institution.
  • Describe student services offered at your institution and benefits to students.
  • Explain all admissions requirements for enrolling at your institution.
  • Identify the steps in the enrollment process.
  • List documents required for the enrollment process.
  • Describe what to do with the completed documents when using paper or automated record keeping and filing systems.
  • Explain admission process as it relates to courses and programs delivered online.
  • Recognize requirements when enrolling veterans.
  • Describe your institution's self-regulating process.
  • Distinguish among various regulatory agencies.

Module 4: Staying Compliant and Understanding Consequences

  • Discuss Fair Consumer Practices in your state.
  • Identify admissions agent limitations related to language, marketing, employment, and financial assistance.
  • Describe the consequences, disciplinary actions, and penalties when rules and regulations are ignored or not followed.
  • Describe potential problems when using any form of social media.
  • Explain the importance of institution policies for use of social media.
  • Identify resources for staying up-to-date and compliant.
  • Describe how admissions representatives and those involved directly and indirectly in admissions must operate with a compliant mindset.
